A Few Words From the Vice-President of the CEC

Wow. What crazy times we are living in! I hope you are all taking care and doing what you need to do to stay healthy. Below is a quick summary of what is happening at the CEC.

JTTP 2020 — Last call for submissions! If you are quarantined at home, now is a great time to focus on an electroacoustic composition. May 1st is the deadline to submit work for the 21st edition of Jeu de temps / Times Play, coordinated by the CEC since 2000. Consult the call for submissions for more details. We have an anonymous jury, prizes for the top 5 winners, sustained support of all submissions (see website for past editions) and concert play for winners: 1st place in Akousma (Montréal) and this year’s Special Event Partner is DEGEM, Germany’s national association for electroacoustic practices, with a concert of all winning JTTP 2020 works planned for early October in Bremen (Germany).

As with all CEC projects, JTTP supports all forms of electroacoustic practices: acousmatic, musique concrète, electronic music, tape music, live electronics, acoustic ecology, soundscape, videomusic, VR, sound design, live coding, circuit bending, hardware hacking, mixed media, turntablism, generative, glitch and beyond.

AGM — Annual General Meeting of CEC Members. Keep your ears open for details of the 2020 AGM. It will be held in Montréal and webcast in August. The Minutes from last year’s AGM were published in the August 2019 edition of eFlash!

eContact! — Call for Contributions. We have several upcoming issues — maybe you have something to contribute? Please spread the word to folk you think might be interested. The next two issues are on “Live Coding and Laptop Orchestras” and “Conceptual Approaches to Sound-Based Artistic Practices.” If you are considering submitting an article, artist gallery, interview or other to the CEC’s online journal for electroacoustic practices, contact Coordinating Editor jef chippewa.
