All melodic movement in this work is derived from a spectral analysis of a complex waveform (the rim of a wineglass). A total of seven notes are sounded, and these in turn serve as the note generators for thirteen other MIDI devices. An IVL Pitchrider, set on maximum sensitivity, ‘tracked’ the original arpeggiated chords, and the results of this analysis can be heard in the other voices. All elements of rhythm (excluding the source track) were the result of the shift in relative strength of the harmonics of the source track over time—the same information provides the faster moving pitch data. To provide clarity, the speed of these events is drastically reduced so that each threshold point transition is easily heard. JL
